It has only been a few months since the beginning of the construction works of the future Sports Centre of Malley.
The authorities agreed on a reconstruction project for the Malley ice skating rink and the construction of an Olympic swimming pool and a complementary sports program. These sports infrastructures combined will represent the Sports Centre of Malley. To respond to the context of the candidature file of Lausanne and the Canton for the Youth Olympic Games of 2020 and the Ice Hockey World Championships in May 2020, the new ice skating rink will be operational as of 2019 and the pool as of 2020.
Concretely, the project predicts the construction of three ice skating rinks; the main rink with a capacity of 9’700 seats for spectators, a training rink, and an outdoor rink for the public. The aquatics centre will host a diving pool, an Olympic pool of 50m, a recreational and a paddling pool. In addition, the Sports Centre of Malley will offer a fencing and a table tennis centre.
This project remedies a significant lack of sports infrastructures in the French-speaking part of Switzerland and will leave a positive and sustainable legacy for the Lausanne agglomeration, the canton of Vaud, and sports within Switzerland.
